If legal aid is not available to help you respond to a Road Traffic Offence alleged at the Magistrates then Trinity Advocates will discuss options to represent you under private terms. Generally our starting point for representing anyone for a private fee at a single Magistrates hearing for road traffic is £300 plus Vat (a total of £360), payable on the hearing date. That will include a meeting in advance of the hearing if there is paperwork to consider.

A matter that goes to trial at the Magistrates may will incur a private fee of £600 plus VAT, on the basis that there is no third party to instruct as well (such as Counsel or a road traffic or intoxilyser expert) and on the basis that there are no more than two defence witnesses to take an account from in the office. These costs have to be an estimate and the cost can increase if an expert or the extent of case preparation required takes us beyond what our standard fee anticipates. Payment is expected in full by the date of trial.

When you make your decisions then we will give you as full advice as we can about any impact on the proposed fees of your options in the case. Call us and we can explain more.
